Oral Speech – SIGNS

Ok guys! Time to use your creativity! 🙂

PART 1 – CREATE YOU SIGN

The materials you can use are endless… from wood to cardboard, polyurethane (hielo seco), foamy or construction paper, markers, pencils, crayons, paint, glitter, foami letters, buttons, beans, cotton balls, aluminum foil, feathers, popsicle sticks, colored felt, ribbon, crepé paper… you name it!

Once you have your materials, the following instructions NEED to be fulfilled:

  1. Choose a geometrical shape for your sign (circle, square, rectangle, heart, star, diamond, oval, hexagon, etc). If you decide to use wood, have it cut in the shape you want. THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE BRINGING IT TO SCHOOL.
  2. The sign must be  in size a minimum of 8.5 x 11. However, it can be bigger if you want.  No small signs will be accepted.
  3. You need to WEAR you sign around your neck during the entire day with your Friday uniform. The idea is for the whole school to notice your sign and ask you about it. You can use ribbon or a piece of wool.
  4. The sign can be a copy of the ones that already exists (you can look it up on Google), one that you like from the story “The Signmaker’s Assistant” or a completely new sign that you invented.
  5. The sign can be made of only letters or only drawings or both. The teacher will understand once you have explained it.
  6. If your sign is related to this year´s Science Fair Topic (Climate Change- natural disasters – safety tips, recycling, deforestation), the teacher will save it for the SCIENCE FAIR in October and it will be use among the decorations for that day. Also, on that day, you will have the opportunity to share your sign with high school students.

PART 2 – ORAL SPEECH

The following questions must be answered in front of the class, to your classmates and your teacher. Remember you won’t be able to read your answers so practice your speech at home. In a piece of paper, copy the questions with your answers and hand it to the teacher at the moment of your presentation. The teacher will not accept papers done using a computer. THIS IS MANDATORY!

Questions:

  1. What is your sign about?
  2. What materials did you use?
  3. Who helped you and in what way?
  4. Why is your sign important / helpful?
  5. Where would you put your sign?
  6. Who should see your sign?

**This are a few ideas for you! I know you’ll do GREAT!
